Beijing to renovate patrol cars for Olympics

www.chinanews.cn 2006-05-29 16:27:14

Chinanews, May 29 – Starting 2006, Beijing police will provide auto
racing training for policemen aiming at security of Beijing Olympic Games
and commence special refit of some patrol cars. By the end of 2007,
10,000 policemen will have received safe driving training. Liu Shi,
related spokesman of Beijing People’s Police College (BPPC), made the
above statement at the Beijing police auto track racing on May 28.
Zheng Weiping, deputy dean of BPPC, remarked that in view of security
requirement of 2008 Beijing Olympics, Beijing police will renovate some
of its 10,000 patrol cars, especially those to be on patrol at Olympic
venues and neighboring areas, according to racing car standard. He said
that the racing cars used by Beijing police will be equipped with
anti-roll bars to create more origin of force for seat belts and enhance
safety factor of the seats.
This year, Beijing police plans to give 4,000 to 6,000 policemen safe
driving training, which includes standard movement, driving skills and
emergency handling skills.
It was learned that current driving training for Beijing police consists
of fast reverse plus u-turn, fast reverse in a narrow alley and the most
difficult part is interception and crash. Liu said that drivers should
crash the criminals’ cars till they turn over or lose control, but at the
same time, they need to take control of their own cars and prevent
themselves and the hostages from being hurt.
Moreover, aiming at security of Beijing Olympic Games, Beijing police
will launch various training and competitions of hairpin turn and driving
speed on asphalt roads simulating urban roads. From next month, Beijing
police will start to select policemen to participate in special driving
training for security of Beijing Olympic Games.
